October 9, 2019

Hola! Its been a good few days since my last P Day, and I decided to take a different approach for my emails, since I didnt really know what to talk about in my email last week. So this week, at night before I went to bed, I wrote a little summary of that day and put it in my email drafts (kinda like a daily journal entry). This way, I can remember more details to share. It also means that this email will be pretty long. Sorry.

Sunday 10/06
Today was general conference! It was awesome! I loved all the talks, but ESPECIALLY loved President Nelsons talk at the end of the Sunday afternoon session, where he announced that next conference will be the 200th anniversary of Joseph Smith's first vision, so it will be themed about that! And I literally just spent the last whole week memorizing Joseph Smith's account of the first vision in spanish, so I was super excited about that! The first vision also took place in New York, which is WHERE I WILL BE DURING THE ANNIVERSARY CONFERENCE. I literally get chills thinking about it. Also, they announced 8 new temples, and 1 is in Mcallen, Texas, which is where like 4 people in my district are going to serve! They were SO happy, and I am so happy for them! We have been celebrating about it. Today we also had a lot of free time, which means a lot of time to think. For some people, they think about things they shouldnt think of (like home, and the things they miss). Which is what all my roommates did! So everyone was kinda depressed today, except for me. So I spent the day being a counselor haha, and it was nice because I got to talk to everyone on a real personal level, and help everyone, and also got a lot closer to my companion! Oh, and my roommates (Elder Martin, Elder Davis, and Elder Hale) are all going to New York with me, so we will all fly together, which is cool because we are great friends. I have become seriously best friends with a lot of the people in my district. Especially someone named Elder Booth. Me and him are like the SAME person. Same music taste, same interests, like he is my best friend here! 10/10, highly recommend hanging out with Elder Booth.

Monday 10/07
Today I finally learned how to fold fitted bed sheets.

Tuesday 10/08
My companion woke up sick today and couldnt get out of bed, so I stayed with him in the room instead of getting breakfast. We skipped some of our classes so we could go to la enfurmeria and get medicine and stuff for him. La enfurmia asked me to put ear medicine stuff into his ears every 8 hours, so... thats fun. I also didnt feel well today, but I'm not sick, the food here is just sketchy and messes up everyones stomaches haha, but I am sure I will get used to it. We skipped gym time because he didnt feel well, and got haircuts instead. We also taught 5 lessons to 5 different "investigators" in spanish. It went well, but Im kinda struggling with the language. But luckily my companion isnt, so I just jump in when I can.  I think I am actually doing better than most people, and I have made as much progress as the CCM expects me to make. But compared to my companion, Im not very good haha. Compared to my district, I am doing great. Elder Martin said "I am good with the spanish, and you are good with the testifying". He is kinda bad at testifying because he actually left the church when he was 18, but came back like a year ago, and he is the only member in his family (his whole story is kinda confusing), which would be really hard... so he kinda struggles with that. But we cancel eachother out, because his weaknesses are my strengths, and vice versa. OH! Cool thing about Mexico City, they have bright green parakeets and parrots that you pretty much see all the time in most of the trees, its pretty cool! Its also super loud at night because we are in the middle of Mexico City, so theres always sirens, cars honking, loud music outside the CCM walls, and every night for some reason there are fireworks. It doesnt even have to be a holiday, mexicans just know how to party. Today is Tuesday, which means I am 1 week into my mission. But its felt like a month! Ive been told the first week is the hardest because you have to adjust to a new lifestyle, and man it has been really hard, but feels rewarding already because I know all my efforts will help other people be happy, which makes me happy.

Wednesday 10/09
P DAY!! We dont have any classes or anything important today, so we are doing laundry, video chatting family, TAKING NAPS (which is very much needed), and studying. Super excited. But this morning was WACK. We were planning on sleeping in a little today, but then at 6:30, a lady that only speaks spanish came in our room and woke us up to show us all the cleaning procedures for our room. It caught us by surprise, and we didn't understand anything she said because she talked super fast and we were all still half asleep, but she basically cleaned our whole bathroom so I am not complaining. For some reason, we arent allowed to take pictures unless its p day. I dont really understand that rule, but I follow it anyway, so I dont have much pictures of the scenery or myself to share with you guys. Those will come eventually probably.

To the few of you who actually read this far, thank you! And thank you to everyone that emails me throughout the week, that MAKES my day, and I love having things to read! Sorry for the large amount of words, and low amount of interesting pictures. Adios!

P.S. I think I found a picture in the CCM of my mission prep teacher in Arizona, Brother Hernandez. Crazy.

P.P.S. I lost my water bottle

August 9, 2021 Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great week! I'm writing this email having spent 110% of my energy this week on the work of the Lord. I almost have no energy left other than the promise in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me". I'm going into my 6th month with little sleep and an enormous workload, and It's catching up to me now, but I'll be okay. I seriously feel like the only thing keeping me going is Jesus Christ, which is an incredible feeling having given everything to the Lord. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm definitely not complaining, but I'm insanely grateful for the opportunity to serve. There is nothing more fulfilling than this work, and even though I feel like I've given everything I have, I still wish I could give more. We picked up 31 new missionaries from the airport this week! Having to organize the logistics for their travel, hotel, and meals was pretty chaotic,...

Goodbye New York City

September 13, 2021 It pains me to say that this was my last week as a missionary. We had a general authority (Elder Bassett) visit the mission all week, and Elder Call and I were in charge of the technology. I could probably write a whole email about all the miracles, struggles, and work that went into that. Maybe that's a story for another day. We picked up my replacement, Elder Wolfgramm, and have been training him on some things before I go. It has been an absolute blast being in a trio with them. I reflected a lot this week on the past 2 years and the things I have learned. I want to make a brief summary of my mission and say what I learned from each of my areas and companions! It will probably be boring for you, but it's mostly just for me to write down some thoughts to look back on one day haha. Mexico MTC - Elder Martin I learned spanish, kinda. Elder Martin has also taught me a lot about friendship and loyalty. He is SUCH a good friend. I am still learning from him ev...

EMERGENCY *MUST READ*

November 9, 2020 What's up!!!! I'm not sure if you all heard, but the elections were this week. We don't watch the news or anything so I received the update when the ENTIRE city went out onto the streets with cowbells, trumpets, frying pans, and other noisemakers to celebrate. It was crazy. New York is very very very blue. That's all I will say. I emailed President Teuscher about my concerns with my companion's obedience, and he said "I will see what I can do". Well he actually did a LOT to help! He made a whole PowerPoint presentation on obedience and shared it in a mission-wide devotional. We also had a mission leadership meeting in Queens this week and had a big discussion about how to help the 27 new incoming missionaries be obedient... the answer: WE ARE OBEDIENT OURSELVES. We made plans to do a 40 day fast as a mission from EVERYTHING we may cut corners on when it comes to rules. Anyway, I feel like my emails to President sparked a big mission-wide f...
