Harlem is ALIVE

 January 11, 2021

BUENOSSS DÍAS A TODOSSSSSSS!!!!! How are you all doing? I am doing well, and my week was awesome! Hopefully you are all doing well! Let me know if I can pray for anything or anyone! Okay, here are some of the highlights from the week:

- ALEJANDRO PASSED HIS BAPTISMAL INTERVIEW! We have only been teaching him for 5 weeks and I was confident he would pass. He is SO prepared! His baptism will be this Saturday and we are all so excited! He told us he wants to be in contact with us forever and one day get our grandkids together to tell them "our story". He is the best! I wish you all could meet him because he just RADIATES joy all the time. He is just so thankful he met us and found the church!

- One of our favorite members, Hermano Herrera, invited us to go running with him one morning. We excitedly accepted, but we didn't realize what we had just gotten ourselves into. Apparently Hermano Herrera runs marathons and is an ANIMAL. We met him in Central Park at 6:45 AM. It was dark, and cold (25 degrees to be exact). When we met up, he said "So do you want to run the whole 20 miles or just 4?". And we were like... uhhh... neither! Haha we ended up running 4 miles at an insane pace without stopping and it was pretty freaking hard. I was about to die haha. 4 miles might not sound too bad, but remember, we are missionaries who spend most of our time online. We don't really get around too much anymore haha. I did the whole thing without stopping which I am really proud of! He wants to run with us every Saturday but go farther and farther every week. So please pray for us as we train ourselves to be more prepared next time.

- We made a zone record for most new people found, most people brought to church, and most people with baptismal dates all in the same week, which is amazing! Lately, I have been trying to change everyone's mentality about the work because a lot of missionaries claim that their areas are "dead", which makes no sense to me. I think they use that as an excuse to not try super hard. There is no such thing as dead areas! As the scriptures say, "faith without works is dead", and I would argue that "works without faith is dead" too. I organized a little zone meeting where we all talked about having the "faith to find". I think it worked because after that, we made the zone record for most new people found in a week! Faith brings miracles! There is a lot more energy and excitement in the zone now, and I am excited to see what else we can accomplish this transfer. Now everyone says "INWOOD IS ALIVE" or "BERMUDA IS ALIVE" or "HARLEM IS ALIVE" every time they see a miracle. There are no dead areas, but even if there were, Manhattan is NOT one of them.

- The church 2021 youth album is FIRE. I'm not just saying that because I am a missionary, it actually slaps soooo hard. We have been blasting it all week.

Okay I have already rambled for a long time, and I could probably keep going for a while but I will cut it off here. I hope everyone has a great week!! Adios!

P.S. I didn't take a single picture this week! But I took hundreds last week, so I will send some of the pictures that didn't make the cut in the last email :)

Fireworks or Gunshots?

October 16, 2019 I feel like I am in an episode of Naked and Afraid. Except I'm not naked, I am just afraid. Haha just kidding, but I do feel like I am on survival mode, because we made popcorn in the drying machine because our house doesnt have a microwave. My district also likes playing a game that we like to call, "Fireworks or gunshots". Every night we hear loud bangs, and most of the time it is fireworks. But sometimes, it sounds more like a gunshot, and then we usually hear police sirens afterwards. So we all make guesses on if its a firework, or if someone got shot. Kinda sketchy, but theres not very many other games we can play haha. The CCM is starting to grow on me! Its literally prison but I am used to it. I am on week 3 of 6, so I am halfway done! The first 2 weeks were really, really hard, but I think I have adjusted to the lifestyle by now, and warmed up to everybody. But staying inside the classroom all day, everyday is driving me crazy! I am counting down...

Zone Conference Week

August 16, 2021 What's good!!! This week was Zone Conference week, so we were running all over the mission giving trainings and making sure everything went smoothly. It was my last Zone Conference ever, which was sad, but I was honestly pretty relieved after it was over because its really stressful organizing the whole thing. Departing missionaries are always asked to share their testimony at their last Zone Conference, but because I attended ALL the zone conferences, I got to do it every day.  We dropped Elder Money off at the airport on Thursday morning! It was super sad! I love that guy. He was such a great companion! Elder Call and I actually had time to do normal missionary work yesterday for the first time in months! We grabbed a stack of Book of Mormons and rode the subway up and down Manhattan for a few hours and passed out as many as we could. Elder Call met a guy named Nephi who isn't even a member of the church. It was so cool. I met a guy from The Bronx that spit ...

"Hurricane" Henri

August 23, 2021 To whom it may concern, This week was great! There was a hurricane over the weekend so we were in a hurry trying to contact parents and get missionaries who live on the coast to safer places to live as we waited out the storm. We were all very underwhelmed because it was probably the weakest hurricane in history haha, but I am glad no damage was done! All missionaries were on lockdown and church was cancelled. We live in the same building as President and Sister Holmes, so we were on lockdown with them and spent the day working on things together. I feel extremely blessed. They are changing my life every day. Elder Call and I got to proselyte a lot this week! It was my first time doing it in a few months, so we gave it everything we had, especially because neither of us have much time left to do it! We found a few new people to teach, but the biggest miracle was Mario! We met him at a taco stand when we were getting lunch. It turns out he was already meeting with t...
