I GOT POOPED ON

January 13, 2020

I don't even know where to begin explaining this week. So many random, weird things happened! So for this email, I will give brief summaries of the craziest things that happened to me!

1- I got pooped on by a bird and had to walk around all night covered in poop. Pretty embarrassing and I got some weird looks. Oh man it was gross and no one wanted to talk to me

2- I almost caught the apartment on fire by making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!!! There was no room on the counter, so I put the bread bag on top of the stove temporarily. While I was spreading my peanut butter, I leaned back onto the stove for some reason and started to hear that clicking noise before the fire ignites. I almost caught the whole bag of bread on fire and who knows what wouldve happened if I didnt quickly realize what was happening. Oh man.

3- I saw a fight! These 2 guys were YELLING on the street very aggressively for awhile about who knows what. 1 of them calmly walked back into his house for a few seconds and then came back out. We think he grabbed a knife or something but we weren't close enough to see. When he came back out, he yelled "I'M BACK!!!" in the most dramatically angry voice I have ever heard. It was so funny but oh man I hope no one got hurt! We left before it got too crazy.

4- I saw them filming a TV show! There were a bunch of big trucks and movie equipment, and signs that said "FBI Season 2". So if anyone watches that show, keep an eye out for me in the background going for a run haha.

5- We were on the train, and when the train stopped, a loud angry voice came over the intercom yelling "I AM ONLY GONNA SAY THIS ONCE! DONT SMOKE WEED ON MY TRAIN!" And then we saw 2 hooligans came running into our train car, away from a security guard. They chased each other through the train and ran in between the cars, like one of those old cowboy movies where they run through each train car. It was crazy! Thats pretty much New York for ya

6- On the bus, as a conversation starter, I asked someone if they knew where a nearby Mcdonalds is. They told me "Woodhaven", and someone else was like "No, its on 75th street", and then someone else was like "you are both stupid, its on 80th street", and like 5 different people started arguing about where a Mcdonalds is, but I didnt even need to find one, I was just trying to start up a conversation. It was pretty funny getting half the bus all worked up about nothing haha.

So yeah, never dull moment in New York. As far as teaching goes, Kiko is making so much progress! He came to church and even contributed to the discussion in Sunday school. He made friends with like 20 people and everyone loves him! So he is likely to come again! I know he WILL get baptized, but probably not as soon as we hope. Conversion takes time, and we dont want to rush him. But I hope I dont get transferred before his baptism! Marta Lucia and Gustavo still need to get married before she gets baptized, and we made a little progress with that, but they are so busy its hard to get them down to the courthouse.

PLEASE KEEP THESE PEOPLE IN YOUR PRAYERS! Kiko, Eduardo, Julian, Marta Lucia, Gustavo, Ivan and his family, Marilyn, and Michael. Pray for them to have the motivation to read, pray, and attend church so they may gain a testimony and come to know these things are true.

Anyway, it was a great and crazy week. Love you all!

August 9, 2021 Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great week! I'm writing this email having spent 110% of my energy this week on the work of the Lord. I almost have no energy left other than the promise in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me". I'm going into my 6th month with little sleep and an enormous workload, and It's catching up to me now, but I'll be okay. I seriously feel like the only thing keeping me going is Jesus Christ, which is an incredible feeling having given everything to the Lord. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm definitely not complaining, but I'm insanely grateful for the opportunity to serve. There is nothing more fulfilling than this work, and even though I feel like I've given everything I have, I still wish I could give more. We picked up 31 new missionaries from the airport this week! Having to organize the logistics for their travel, hotel, and meals was pretty chaotic,...

Goodbye New York City

September 13, 2021 It pains me to say that this was my last week as a missionary. We had a general authority (Elder Bassett) visit the mission all week, and Elder Call and I were in charge of the technology. I could probably write a whole email about all the miracles, struggles, and work that went into that. Maybe that's a story for another day. We picked up my replacement, Elder Wolfgramm, and have been training him on some things before I go. It has been an absolute blast being in a trio with them. I reflected a lot this week on the past 2 years and the things I have learned. I want to make a brief summary of my mission and say what I learned from each of my areas and companions! It will probably be boring for you, but it's mostly just for me to write down some thoughts to look back on one day haha. Mexico MTC - Elder Martin I learned spanish, kinda. Elder Martin has also taught me a lot about friendship and loyalty. He is SUCH a good friend. I am still learning from him ev...

EMERGENCY *MUST READ*

November 9, 2020 What's up!!!! I'm not sure if you all heard, but the elections were this week. We don't watch the news or anything so I received the update when the ENTIRE city went out onto the streets with cowbells, trumpets, frying pans, and other noisemakers to celebrate. It was crazy. New York is very very very blue. That's all I will say. I emailed President Teuscher about my concerns with my companion's obedience, and he said "I will see what I can do". Well he actually did a LOT to help! He made a whole PowerPoint presentation on obedience and shared it in a mission-wide devotional. We also had a mission leadership meeting in Queens this week and had a big discussion about how to help the 27 new incoming missionaries be obedient... the answer: WE ARE OBEDIENT OURSELVES. We made plans to do a 40 day fast as a mission from EVERYTHING we may cut corners on when it comes to rules. Anyway, I feel like my emails to President sparked a big mission-wide f...
