The Field is White, But Not Ready to Harvest

January 20, 2020

This week was a tough one, not going to lie. But just like farming, there is a season for harvesting. We think that this is the season to plant seeds. Harvesting season will come soon enough! It felt like all of our most interested people took 1 step forward, and 2 steps back. We are back to square one on a lot of people, and some people got off all the squares in general haha. Its been tough but we have been staying happy and positive with cookies, blowing bubbles (even when its like 7 degrees), and making snow men. I have lots of pictures to show for it too!

This week I went on an exchange with Elder Holmes! He is from Tucson, Arizona, and we actually worked together at the temple before we came here, so I knew him before I started my mission. It was super cool being companions with him for the day, and we had a lot of fun!

Remember Vidiana? From my first week in the mission field? We managed to get her into a 6 month addiction recovery program and I haven't seen her in months. Apparently she gets an occasional day where she gets to leave and see family and stuff. We randomly saw her on the street and talked to her for a bit! She looked amazing! So happy! She said she has been praying, like we taught her, everyday and that it brings her a lot of peace! She even prays when she gets mad and it helps her stay calm! She said she is 45 days sober and never wants to drink alcohol again. She thanked us so much because she wouldn't be on this path to recovery without us. It feels super good knowing that I was able to help her! When she finishes the program in a few months, she plans on meeting with the missionaries regularly.

Kiko was golden!! Everything about his situation was going perfectly. He was super interested, loved church, and made a lot of friends in the ward. But this week, he called me for like 30 minutes. He was angry at the world and decided to stop pursuing religion all together. I was heartbroken! In that moment he decided to give up eternal salvation because of worldly conflicts. I have never bore testimony harder, and more sincerely in my entire life. I bore my testimony for almost the entire 30 minute phone call. I didn't realize I cared so much about his eternal happiness, but... it really is so important and this church is so true!  I want him, and everyone to come to know its true too! I don't want him missing out on salvation because of minor inconveniences. He is still kind of making up his mind, but we hope he comes around soon.

Not much else happened this week. A guy on the train started talking to me and thought I was from the FBI haha. Elder Stanford told me I talked in my sleep in Spanish and had a full on conversation, so that's pretty cool. Also, I need to come up with a bunch of ideas for ward activities that relate to missionary work! So if you have any ideas, please send them to me! Have a good week!

Elder Webster
PS. Please pray for Kiko, Vidiana, Julian, Marta Lucia, and Michael

August 9, 2021 Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great week! I'm writing this email having spent 110% of my energy this week on the work of the Lord. I almost have no energy left other than the promise in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me". I'm going into my 6th month with little sleep and an enormous workload, and It's catching up to me now, but I'll be okay. I seriously feel like the only thing keeping me going is Jesus Christ, which is an incredible feeling having given everything to the Lord. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm definitely not complaining, but I'm insanely grateful for the opportunity to serve. There is nothing more fulfilling than this work, and even though I feel like I've given everything I have, I still wish I could give more. We picked up 31 new missionaries from the airport this week! Having to organize the logistics for their travel, hotel, and meals was pretty chaotic,...

Goodbye New York City

September 13, 2021 It pains me to say that this was my last week as a missionary. We had a general authority (Elder Bassett) visit the mission all week, and Elder Call and I were in charge of the technology. I could probably write a whole email about all the miracles, struggles, and work that went into that. Maybe that's a story for another day. We picked up my replacement, Elder Wolfgramm, and have been training him on some things before I go. It has been an absolute blast being in a trio with them. I reflected a lot this week on the past 2 years and the things I have learned. I want to make a brief summary of my mission and say what I learned from each of my areas and companions! It will probably be boring for you, but it's mostly just for me to write down some thoughts to look back on one day haha. Mexico MTC - Elder Martin I learned spanish, kinda. Elder Martin has also taught me a lot about friendship and loyalty. He is SUCH a good friend. I am still learning from him ev...

EMERGENCY *MUST READ*

November 9, 2020 What's up!!!! I'm not sure if you all heard, but the elections were this week. We don't watch the news or anything so I received the update when the ENTIRE city went out onto the streets with cowbells, trumpets, frying pans, and other noisemakers to celebrate. It was crazy. New York is very very very blue. That's all I will say. I emailed President Teuscher about my concerns with my companion's obedience, and he said "I will see what I can do". Well he actually did a LOT to help! He made a whole PowerPoint presentation on obedience and shared it in a mission-wide devotional. We also had a mission leadership meeting in Queens this week and had a big discussion about how to help the 27 new incoming missionaries be obedient... the answer: WE ARE OBEDIENT OURSELVES. We made plans to do a 40 day fast as a mission from EVERYTHING we may cut corners on when it comes to rules. Anyway, I feel like my emails to President sparked a big mission-wide f...
