Corona Virus

March 9, 2020

Holy cow! What a crazy week it has been! I can't possibly talk about everything in one email without writing a novel, so here are just a few experiences I had this week!

Last week we got 4 people to church, which was a big accomplishment and was the highest church attendance I have seen in this area! But this week, we were able to bring 8 people to church! That is huge!!! Unfortunately, 3 of those people forgot about Daylight Savings and showed up an hour late, so they missed the sacrament. But the fact that they all came, even if they were late, was awesome! It used to be a struggle just getting 1 person to come! But if there is one thing I have learned during this transfer, I have learned that God is the only way we can be successful. He communicates with us through the spirit, so if we want His help, listen to the spirit! And then not only listen but follow the promptings you get. That is how we got 8 people to church. We worked SO hard, but I still feel like none of it would have been possible without the Holy Ghost nudging us in the right direction.

Transfers are in 1 week and I have a feeling that I might get transferred. It's possible I could be sent to a new area and leave before I can see all of the fruit from my labors (I have seen a lot already, but there is more to come). But, I think my purpose in this area is to plant the seeds, and I can honestly say that this area is stronger now than when I found it.

The Corona Virus made its way to New York City! I have seen a lot of people wearing masks, and there have been announcements at all the train stations saying to wash your hands and be careful. We received counsel from the mission doctor telling us that we are okay and that we don't have to worry, but we shouldn't shake anyone's hands or hug anyone! So that's fun! Elder Larson also conveniently got sick this week, so... that's not good. He is probably fine though haha. He refuses to take a break from working so hopefully he can recover soon and that I don't get the Corona Virus. Jk, he probably just has a cold. Elder Larson and I were not very close at the beginning of this transfer but we are starting to grow on each other, and from each other. It has been good!

Funny story! Our bishop gave us a referral who lives SUPER far away! Like, an hour bus ride on the opposite side of our area. But, we couldn't just ignore a referral from the bishop! So we headed down there, but accidentally took an express bus, which skipped the stop we needed to go to. We ended up at JFK airport which is very much out of our area boundaries, and we were stuck there waiting for 30 minutes for a bus to take us back. Oh man. It was bad, but we had a good laugh! The referrals ended up being awesome and came to church the next day! It was worth all the effort even though it took all night to get there!

ENGLISH CLASS THIS WEEK WAS INTENSE! We invited some friends with us and doubled the class attendance. The teacher was also out of town and asked us to teach, so we taught English to a class of 8 people. It was really fun and our nonmember friends had a good first experience with meeting members and seeing the church! We are running around the city today to hang up flyers to get more people to come to the class. English class is BOOMING and it's a great way to get our friends to come to the church and become friends with the ward.

Quick updates on baptisms:
- We were planning on going with Marta Lucia and Gustavo to get married today but something came up and we are going another time. Marriage is the only thing they need to be baptized!! We are so close.

- We also committed a lady named Maria Avila to be baptized on April 18th. She is amazing. I love her to death and the whole ward is excited for her.

- We found a few more people with lots of potential to be baptized, so please pray for Walter, Rosa, Irene, Nelson, Alejandro, Susan, and Maria James.

Hope everything is going well for all of you! Thank you for the prayers, they are working! Have a great week!

August 9, 2021 Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great week! I'm writing this email having spent 110% of my energy this week on the work of the Lord. I almost have no energy left other than the promise in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me". I'm going into my 6th month with little sleep and an enormous workload, and It's catching up to me now, but I'll be okay. I seriously feel like the only thing keeping me going is Jesus Christ, which is an incredible feeling having given everything to the Lord. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm definitely not complaining, but I'm insanely grateful for the opportunity to serve. There is nothing more fulfilling than this work, and even though I feel like I've given everything I have, I still wish I could give more. We picked up 31 new missionaries from the airport this week! Having to organize the logistics for their travel, hotel, and meals was pretty chaotic,...

Goodbye New York City

September 13, 2021 It pains me to say that this was my last week as a missionary. We had a general authority (Elder Bassett) visit the mission all week, and Elder Call and I were in charge of the technology. I could probably write a whole email about all the miracles, struggles, and work that went into that. Maybe that's a story for another day. We picked up my replacement, Elder Wolfgramm, and have been training him on some things before I go. It has been an absolute blast being in a trio with them. I reflected a lot this week on the past 2 years and the things I have learned. I want to make a brief summary of my mission and say what I learned from each of my areas and companions! It will probably be boring for you, but it's mostly just for me to write down some thoughts to look back on one day haha. Mexico MTC - Elder Martin I learned spanish, kinda. Elder Martin has also taught me a lot about friendship and loyalty. He is SUCH a good friend. I am still learning from him ev...

EMERGENCY *MUST READ*

November 9, 2020 What's up!!!! I'm not sure if you all heard, but the elections were this week. We don't watch the news or anything so I received the update when the ENTIRE city went out onto the streets with cowbells, trumpets, frying pans, and other noisemakers to celebrate. It was crazy. New York is very very very blue. That's all I will say. I emailed President Teuscher about my concerns with my companion's obedience, and he said "I will see what I can do". Well he actually did a LOT to help! He made a whole PowerPoint presentation on obedience and shared it in a mission-wide devotional. We also had a mission leadership meeting in Queens this week and had a big discussion about how to help the 27 new incoming missionaries be obedient... the answer: WE ARE OBEDIENT OURSELVES. We made plans to do a 40 day fast as a mission from EVERYTHING we may cut corners on when it comes to rules. Anyway, I feel like my emails to President sparked a big mission-wide f...
