April 27, 2020

Wow! You would think I would run out of updates to write about since we are still stuck at home, but I have some news! But first, thank you so much to everyone that sent Elder Goodman and I something! We got like 6 meals delivered to us throughout the week and some packages and letters! It was a fantastic birthday! I feel super blessed! When I asked people to send me stuff last week I was kind of joking because I didn't think anyone would actually do it, but we have been LOADED with food and packages! Thank you everyone! I also feel mega blessed because WE FINALLY KILLED A MOUSE! After many sleepless nights, trips to the store for traps, and praying, we got 1! We have seen rats and other mice too, so the war is not over. But 1 mouse is progress!

We got transfer calls on Saturday night, and Elder Goodman and I are both staying in Olmstead. But the thing is, since so many missionaries got sent home, a bunch of areas have been shut down. The entire Chinese Zone closed, and so did one of the teaching pools in Richmond Hill (luckily, my old area is still alive). All transportation for transfers will be done through Uber in order to avoid public transit. So, since there are few missionaries here, and everyone is getting a bit more spread out, my district got combined with the Kingsbridge area in The Bronx, so my district now covers a majority of the bureau.

On Sunday night, my birthday, I received a phone call from the AP's asking me to be the new district leader! What!! For those who don't know, a district leader helps resolve concerns with the missionaries, plans and conducts weekly district councils, plans exchanges, conducts baptismal interviews, and some other stuff. Since my district now covers a larger area, if anyone in the Bronx wants to get baptized, I am likely the one who will be interviewing them. It's a pretty crazy thing to think about! I am a bit stressed out about all the responsibilities of being a district leader, plus also trying to figure out how to effectively do missionary work from entirely in the house. These are crazy times.

Updates on the amazing people we teach! Anibal is our most progressing person, and he is golden! He downloaded the Gospel Library app and now he keeps sending us Book of Mormon videos and scriptures that he likes! He is also a referral MACHINE! He called us out of nowhere one day to ask us if we could start teaching a couple of his friends. He has given us 4 referrals in the past 2 weeks, and he is basically a missionary! Anibal is only 18! We want to baptize him so bad and get him on a mission, but we have to wait until the quarantine ends. The craziest part is, he doesn't speak English or Spanish! He speaks an ancient, endangered Guatemalan language called Mum. The language is so small that it's not even on Google Translate. He speaks a little Spanish but not much, so it really goes to show the power of The Holy Ghost in the conversion process. The words we teach probably have 0 impact on him, but as he reads the scriptures and prays, the Spirit is the one that teaches him and testifies of truth. Now, he has a rock solid testimony, and its all thanks to The Holy Ghost!

Moroni 10:5 - "And by the power of the Holy Ghost, ye may know the truth of all things."

Thanks again to everyone that sent me something this week, I appreciate it a lot! Have a great week!

Fireworks or Gunshots?

October 16, 2019 I feel like I am in an episode of Naked and Afraid. Except I'm not naked, I am just afraid. Haha just kidding, but I do feel like I am on survival mode, because we made popcorn in the drying machine because our house doesnt have a microwave. My district also likes playing a game that we like to call, "Fireworks or gunshots". Every night we hear loud bangs, and most of the time it is fireworks. But sometimes, it sounds more like a gunshot, and then we usually hear police sirens afterwards. So we all make guesses on if its a firework, or if someone got shot. Kinda sketchy, but theres not very many other games we can play haha. The CCM is starting to grow on me! Its literally prison but I am used to it. I am on week 3 of 6, so I am halfway done! The first 2 weeks were really, really hard, but I think I have adjusted to the lifestyle by now, and warmed up to everybody. But staying inside the classroom all day, everyday is driving me crazy! I am counting down...

Zone Conference Week

August 16, 2021 What's good!!! This week was Zone Conference week, so we were running all over the mission giving trainings and making sure everything went smoothly. It was my last Zone Conference ever, which was sad, but I was honestly pretty relieved after it was over because its really stressful organizing the whole thing. Departing missionaries are always asked to share their testimony at their last Zone Conference, but because I attended ALL the zone conferences, I got to do it every day.  We dropped Elder Money off at the airport on Thursday morning! It was super sad! I love that guy. He was such a great companion! Elder Call and I actually had time to do normal missionary work yesterday for the first time in months! We grabbed a stack of Book of Mormons and rode the subway up and down Manhattan for a few hours and passed out as many as we could. Elder Call met a guy named Nephi who isn't even a member of the church. It was so cool. I met a guy from The Bronx that spit ...

"Hurricane" Henri

August 23, 2021 To whom it may concern, This week was great! There was a hurricane over the weekend so we were in a hurry trying to contact parents and get missionaries who live on the coast to safer places to live as we waited out the storm. We were all very underwhelmed because it was probably the weakest hurricane in history haha, but I am glad no damage was done! All missionaries were on lockdown and church was cancelled. We live in the same building as President and Sister Holmes, so we were on lockdown with them and spent the day working on things together. I feel extremely blessed. They are changing my life every day. Elder Call and I got to proselyte a lot this week! It was my first time doing it in a few months, so we gave it everything we had, especially because neither of us have much time left to do it! We found a few new people to teach, but the biggest miracle was Mario! We met him at a taco stand when we were getting lunch. It turns out he was already meeting with t...
