I'm a Trainer!

June 8, 2020

Hello everyone!! I hope you all had a good week!

On Thursday, President Teuscher called me and asked me if I would train a new missionary! He said it is the most sacred assignment that he gives to missionaries because a trainer makes a big impact on how the rest of your mission goes. He said that he has seen me grow a lot and feels like I am ready! I am going to be a dad! Just in time for Fathers Day haha! Because of the virus, transfers are working a little differently. My trainee is actually going to be dropped off directly at my house TONIGHT, and I will be in a trio until tomorrow afternoon when Elder Goodman gets picked up by an Uber to go to his new area.

ELDER GOODMAN IS GETTING TRANSFERED TO RICHMOND HILL WITH ELDER LARSON AND A NEW RE-ASSIGNED MISSIONARY!! How crazy is that?! He is going to my last area and my last companion! This seems to be a common trend in my mission because my 1st and 2nd companion got assigned together, and then my 3rd and 4th companion got assigned together! Literally all of my companions have served with eachother... so crazy how that worked out!

So this next transfer, I am training a missionary who did not go to the MTC, and I am serving as a District Leader over a district with 12 missionaries in it. I am juggling all of this in an area I have barely seen, a ward I have barely met, facing the Covid-19 Pandemic in the epicenter of the world, and also while there are violent riots just outside my apartment. What a crazy time this is.

This is A LOT on my plate haha and I am honestly really excited to see how everything goes but I am pretty stressed out. I am expecting to hopefully have a couple baptisms soon too (maybe even this week if we get permission to meet together)! We have been working super hard, teaching about 8 lessons ever single day. We are just about ready to start doing combined lessons, where we just add several people to one call and teach them all at once... we literally don't have enough time to teach everyone that wants to be taught haha. This is probably not what my trainee is expecting haha so I am sure he will be surprised and excited to hear that our days are packed full of things to do.

Thats pretty much all of my news! Please pray for me and my new companion! He didn't get any MTC experience so I am nervous he will not know any spanish or know anything he needs to know. It will be an interesting week for sure! Have a great week!

August 9, 2021 Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great week! I'm writing this email having spent 110% of my energy this week on the work of the Lord. I almost have no energy left other than the promise in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me". I'm going into my 6th month with little sleep and an enormous workload, and It's catching up to me now, but I'll be okay. I seriously feel like the only thing keeping me going is Jesus Christ, which is an incredible feeling having given everything to the Lord. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm definitely not complaining, but I'm insanely grateful for the opportunity to serve. There is nothing more fulfilling than this work, and even though I feel like I've given everything I have, I still wish I could give more. We picked up 31 new missionaries from the airport this week! Having to organize the logistics for their travel, hotel, and meals was pretty chaotic,...

Goodbye New York City

September 13, 2021 It pains me to say that this was my last week as a missionary. We had a general authority (Elder Bassett) visit the mission all week, and Elder Call and I were in charge of the technology. I could probably write a whole email about all the miracles, struggles, and work that went into that. Maybe that's a story for another day. We picked up my replacement, Elder Wolfgramm, and have been training him on some things before I go. It has been an absolute blast being in a trio with them. I reflected a lot this week on the past 2 years and the things I have learned. I want to make a brief summary of my mission and say what I learned from each of my areas and companions! It will probably be boring for you, but it's mostly just for me to write down some thoughts to look back on one day haha. Mexico MTC - Elder Martin I learned spanish, kinda. Elder Martin has also taught me a lot about friendship and loyalty. He is SUCH a good friend. I am still learning from him ev...

EMERGENCY *MUST READ*

November 9, 2020 What's up!!!! I'm not sure if you all heard, but the elections were this week. We don't watch the news or anything so I received the update when the ENTIRE city went out onto the streets with cowbells, trumpets, frying pans, and other noisemakers to celebrate. It was crazy. New York is very very very blue. That's all I will say. I emailed President Teuscher about my concerns with my companion's obedience, and he said "I will see what I can do". Well he actually did a LOT to help! He made a whole PowerPoint presentation on obedience and shared it in a mission-wide devotional. We also had a mission leadership meeting in Queens this week and had a big discussion about how to help the 27 new incoming missionaries be obedient... the answer: WE ARE OBEDIENT OURSELVES. We made plans to do a 40 day fast as a mission from EVERYTHING we may cut corners on when it comes to rules. Anyway, I feel like my emails to President sparked a big mission-wide f...
