Quarantined... again.

August 3, 2020

This week we got to have our first in-person lesson! It was my first one in almost 6 months, and it was the first one EVER for Elder Chavez! It went really well! We had to wear our masks, and the lady we were teaching sprayed my entire body with some sort of hand sanitizer before I could enter her house. That was fun. We weren't planning on eating with them (because I am pretty sure we aren't allowed to), but they ordered us pizza and chicken wings... so what were we supposed to do? Say no? We didn't want to be rude and reject the food that they bought specifically for us! So, we taught them about the Law of Chastity, told them they needed to repent, and then dined like kings.

President Teuscher organized a bunch of mini testimony meetings over the weekend so that we could get together and share our spiritual experiences from being in self-isolation. We couldn't gather in large groups, so they organized a bunch of sessions with about 15 missionaries in each one. Each companionship sat a few pews apart, we all wore masks, and President Teuscher wiped down the microphone stand after each speaker. The spirit was SO powerful! The spirit works through our phone screens, but it is so much more powerful in person. It was really refreshing, actually. On our way home, we had to take a train to Harlem, where we ate some Taco Bell. Harlem is crazy haha! But the train we took was not the normal subway we usually take. It was one of those fancy trains with leather seats, a bathroom, air conditioning, and a guy came around to punch a hole in our tickets. I was half expecting someone to come by and say, "Anything from the trolley, dear?"

A member in our ward works in an ice cream truck, so we decided to visit her one day! She gave us free ice cream and we asked her to join us in a lesson with one of the people we are teaching, and she said yes! So that was awesome! The place where she parked her ice cream truck had an awesome view of Manhattan and a really cool bridge, so I will attach some pictures of that in this email.

Yesterday, the AP's called us to tell us that we are getting a reassigned missionary from Mexico, and he comes TODAY! His name is Elder Fullmer, and we are so excited to be in a trio with him! The only bad thing is, we dont have an extra bed, dresser, desk, or any extra space! Also, because he is new, we have to go BACK into strick quarantine for 2 more weeks! No walks, no nothing. We can't even go to the store to get groceries, so I honestly have no idea how we are going to manage. We literally had 1 week of freedom and we are back at home haha. But we are excited despite being crammed, hungry, and stuck inside! This will be the 3rd new missionary I will have received straight from the airport in the last 8 weeks.

That's all my updates for this week! Adios!

The Transition

July 5, 2021 This week was President and Sister Holme's first week as our mission presidents! I've been super nervous about this week for the past 3 months, praying, fasting, and staying up too late thinking about all the things I would need to do as their assistant to help them the best I can. Well, this week turned out to be one of the BEST weeks of my life! It was absolutely amazing! As I explain some of the awesome opportunities I had this week, KEEP IN MIND we worked SO hard this week. Harder than ever before. It wasn't all just fun and games like it might sound haha.  First of all, I attended the transition dinner between the Teuschers and the Holmes, and it was really fun just hanging out and joking around with everyone. The Teuschers surprised me, Elder Money, and President Holmes with matching "unity ties". They have little boat steering wheels on them to basically say "you guys are in charge now". I am so so soooo grateful for that whole exper...

Fireworks or Gunshots?

October 16, 2019 I feel like I am in an episode of Naked and Afraid. Except I'm not naked, I am just afraid. Haha just kidding, but I do feel like I am on survival mode, because we made popcorn in the drying machine because our house doesnt have a microwave. My district also likes playing a game that we like to call, "Fireworks or gunshots". Every night we hear loud bangs, and most of the time it is fireworks. But sometimes, it sounds more like a gunshot, and then we usually hear police sirens afterwards. So we all make guesses on if its a firework, or if someone got shot. Kinda sketchy, but theres not very many other games we can play haha. The CCM is starting to grow on me! Its literally prison but I am used to it. I am on week 3 of 6, so I am halfway done! The first 2 weeks were really, really hard, but I think I have adjusted to the lifestyle by now, and warmed up to everybody. But staying inside the classroom all day, everyday is driving me crazy! I am counting down...

Raquel's Baptism!

May 31, 2021 Okay. This week was incredible! I'll keep it as brief as possible even though I could probably talk all day about this stuff. RAQUEL GOT BAPTIZED! It was amazing! She is so happy, and has made some major life adjustments in order to be worthy. She feels amazing and couldn't be happier! She texted us the morning after and said "the next time you go talk to people about Jesus, I want to come with you". So we had her join us for some lessons, and she was inviting everyone to be baptized! It was awesome! She used to be a rockstar and lived a wild entertainer lifestyle, but now she is the holiest, most PRESTIGIOUS cat-sitter in Manhattan. No joke, she has about 300 clients and visits their lofts/rich apartments regularly to take care of their cats. So cool. My friends, Jeri and Alex, who I met at work back in Arizona, and who also receive these emails (you guys rock by the way!) are meeting with missionaries! Because I helped in the process of finding and pr...
