Yo Soy un Mago

August 10, 2020

What is up, gang! Elder Chavez and I received a reassigned missionary that used to serve in Mexico, Elder Fullmer. In 10 months of serving my mission, Elder Fullmer is my FIRST companion from Utah! He is awesome! It has been super cool learning about the similarities and differences between our mission and his old mission. It's not every day you get to serve with someone with COMPLETELY different experiences than we are having here. Its been fun! But, it has felt a bit stressful because I feel like I am basically training 2 missionaries at the same time haha, since Elder Fullmer doesn't know how to do missionary work online, and he forgot a lot of Spanish during his time at home.

Because Elder Fullmer is new, we have to be in another really strict quarantine for 2 weeks. This past week has been really tough (mentally and physically) without fresh air or sunlight, not much exercise, and having 3 people in our small apartment. We have been going a little crazy, but we only have 1 week left until freedom! With some of our extra time, we have been calling an Elder in our zone (Elder Vanlangeveld) who knows magic and trying to learn how to do some tricks. I am not very good but I have lots of time to practice.

Our friend, Nazareth, is the most golden person I have ever seen in my entire life! He feels ready for baptism and he asked if he could get baptized a week earlier than he originally planned, on the 23rd! He also asked us if we could start teaching his family, and he invited them all to our Zoom church call! And they came! He has never NOT done something that we have asked him to do! He is every missionary's dream!

I had my interview with President Teuscher this week, and he told me that this is my last transfer in The Bronx :( So in about 3 weeks I will have to leave, which is crazy because I feel like I have barely seen The Bronx, and I haven't even gone to church in my 6 months of being in this ward.

Shoutout to my parents, Elder Fullmer's parents, and Elder Chavez's parents for all ordering us groceries because we can't leave the house! We have been eating so well this week! Also shoutout to Jolie, who is a family friend who lives in Manhattan! She brought us lunch one day! So good!

Have a great week everyone!

August 9, 2021 Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great week! I'm writing this email having spent 110% of my energy this week on the work of the Lord. I almost have no energy left other than the promise in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me". I'm going into my 6th month with little sleep and an enormous workload, and It's catching up to me now, but I'll be okay. I seriously feel like the only thing keeping me going is Jesus Christ, which is an incredible feeling having given everything to the Lord. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm definitely not complaining, but I'm insanely grateful for the opportunity to serve. There is nothing more fulfilling than this work, and even though I feel like I've given everything I have, I still wish I could give more. We picked up 31 new missionaries from the airport this week! Having to organize the logistics for their travel, hotel, and meals was pretty chaotic,...

Goodbye New York City

September 13, 2021 It pains me to say that this was my last week as a missionary. We had a general authority (Elder Bassett) visit the mission all week, and Elder Call and I were in charge of the technology. I could probably write a whole email about all the miracles, struggles, and work that went into that. Maybe that's a story for another day. We picked up my replacement, Elder Wolfgramm, and have been training him on some things before I go. It has been an absolute blast being in a trio with them. I reflected a lot this week on the past 2 years and the things I have learned. I want to make a brief summary of my mission and say what I learned from each of my areas and companions! It will probably be boring for you, but it's mostly just for me to write down some thoughts to look back on one day haha. Mexico MTC - Elder Martin I learned spanish, kinda. Elder Martin has also taught me a lot about friendship and loyalty. He is SUCH a good friend. I am still learning from him ev...

EMERGENCY *MUST READ*

November 9, 2020 What's up!!!! I'm not sure if you all heard, but the elections were this week. We don't watch the news or anything so I received the update when the ENTIRE city went out onto the streets with cowbells, trumpets, frying pans, and other noisemakers to celebrate. It was crazy. New York is very very very blue. That's all I will say. I emailed President Teuscher about my concerns with my companion's obedience, and he said "I will see what I can do". Well he actually did a LOT to help! He made a whole PowerPoint presentation on obedience and shared it in a mission-wide devotional. We also had a mission leadership meeting in Queens this week and had a big discussion about how to help the 27 new incoming missionaries be obedient... the answer: WE ARE OBEDIENT OURSELVES. We made plans to do a 40 day fast as a mission from EVERYTHING we may cut corners on when it comes to rules. Anyway, I feel like my emails to President sparked a big mission-wide f...
