HA(r)LE(m)

October 19, 2020

It was a good week! Elder Hale is my new companion which feels so weird because we were in the MTC together so I get flashbacks like every single day of memories I worked so hard to forget about, but nope they are all back now! Haha jk. Elder Hale has spent the past year in Long Island and Connecticut, so it is his first time in the actual city, which is funny because I have spent the past year in only city areas! I enjoyed seeing Elder Hale's reaction to normal city things, like rats in the subway, fights on the street, and loud music all night. It seems like we have had complete opposite experiences in our missions until this point haha.

We are teaching a 9 year old, Jeynaliz, who is the most adorable little thing on the Earth! She is counting down the days until she can be baptized and is just so excited to be a member of the church! She might even love Jesus more than she loves her unicorn stuffed animal, which is saying something! Pray for her and her mom, Angie, that things can go according to plan and they can be baptized together next month!

I found someone on Facebook this week that decided to come to church with us! He said he wants us to help him be baptized! It was a huge miracle and we are so excited to get to know him more! Shoutout to Facebook Finding! It surprisingly works!!! Hopefully, y'all aren't annoyed by all of my Facebook posts yet haha.

A big highlight of my week was transfer day when I got to go to Queens and see old friends!! We don't get to see other missionaries very often because of Covid, so it was a big blessing! Elder Martin (my MTC companion), and Elder Hale and I got to drag our suitcases from Queens to Harlem in the rain. I remember dragging our suitcases with the same group of people, but 1 year ago in Mexico!!! We have all grown a lot since then and it's cool to see the changes we have gone through.

Today for P Day we walked down 5th Ave and walked around NBC Studios. Adele is hosting Saturday Night Live this week so things were pretty crazy in the studio today. Then we went to the 9/11 Memorial and Battery Park to see the Statue of Liberty. Good stuff.

Shoutout to Sister Vanbuskirk for starting the online MTC this week!!! And also Sister Driggs for finishing the MTC and going out into the field!! And also Sister Patton, Elder Post, Ashby, Harline, and all my other friends who are killin it right now all around the world! Israel is about to get so gathered.

The Transition

July 5, 2021 This week was President and Sister Holme's first week as our mission presidents! I've been super nervous about this week for the past 3 months, praying, fasting, and staying up too late thinking about all the things I would need to do as their assistant to help them the best I can. Well, this week turned out to be one of the BEST weeks of my life! It was absolutely amazing! As I explain some of the awesome opportunities I had this week, KEEP IN MIND we worked SO hard this week. Harder than ever before. It wasn't all just fun and games like it might sound haha.  First of all, I attended the transition dinner between the Teuschers and the Holmes, and it was really fun just hanging out and joking around with everyone. The Teuschers surprised me, Elder Money, and President Holmes with matching "unity ties". They have little boat steering wheels on them to basically say "you guys are in charge now". I am so so soooo grateful for that whole exper...

Fireworks or Gunshots?

October 16, 2019 I feel like I am in an episode of Naked and Afraid. Except I'm not naked, I am just afraid. Haha just kidding, but I do feel like I am on survival mode, because we made popcorn in the drying machine because our house doesnt have a microwave. My district also likes playing a game that we like to call, "Fireworks or gunshots". Every night we hear loud bangs, and most of the time it is fireworks. But sometimes, it sounds more like a gunshot, and then we usually hear police sirens afterwards. So we all make guesses on if its a firework, or if someone got shot. Kinda sketchy, but theres not very many other games we can play haha. The CCM is starting to grow on me! Its literally prison but I am used to it. I am on week 3 of 6, so I am halfway done! The first 2 weeks were really, really hard, but I think I have adjusted to the lifestyle by now, and warmed up to everybody. But staying inside the classroom all day, everyday is driving me crazy! I am counting down...

WE DID IT!!

July 27, 2020 Guess what! WE DID IT! The New York City Mission is no longer quarantined! FREEDOM! 19 weeks, or 130 days of pioneering a new method of missionary work all ended on... Pioneer Day! God is so funny. You could see the entire mission's jaw drop in unison when we heard the news over a zoom call, it was crazy. We still need to wear masks if we are within 6 feet of anyone, and we still can't knock doors or start up conversations with people on the street. But we can finally teach people in person, go on exchanges, and all that other normal missionary stuff we used to enjoy. Sadly, though we are authorized to teach in person, many people are hesitant to let us into their homes, so we still don't have many opportunities to leave the house haha. I think it will take some time for things to become completely normal again, and we will continue to use the internet for missionary work because it's honestly way more effective than getting doors slammed on us. This week ...
