Pressure Cooker

April 5, 2021

My first official week as an assistant was WILD. I can't think of another time in my life that I could possibly be more busy than I am right now. We've been up and working from 6 AM to midnight (sometimes later) every day. It's intense but its been fun doing it all with Elder Webb! Weeks 1 and 6 of the transfer are the craziest, so I think things will slow down a little. I've had some really incredible and unique experiences just in my first week. One of my favorites being our "transfer planning" meeting with President, where he pretty much asked us what I think the mission needs right now... and then we planned Zone Conference and devotionals and other meetings to help achieve that need. It is super cool getting a say in what the mission focuses on, but I have been relying heavily on prayer and revelation to help inspire me to know what to do, because I am not leading the mission, God is. It stresses me out a little, but the spirit tends to give me an idea AT THE LAST POSSIBLE SECOND. For a leadership meeting, I asked a few missionaries to prepare trainings/spiritual thoughts with only a few hours notice. I was stressing, and they were stressing, but that is just the timing God gave us to work with. One missionary said it well when she said "Have you ever had food from a pressure cooker? It's really good!". That is definitely how I feel sometimes when God waits till the last second to give us an idea of what to do. But just like the pressure cooker, it always turns out really good!

A highlight of the week was definitely getting to be with the departing missionaries in their last few moments of their missions. I took a few missionaries to join me in some lessons, and to proselyte for their last time. It was awesome seeing them give 100% into the work because they won't be able to do it ever again. Afterwards, I got to join the departing missionary testimony meeting with the Teuschers, and it was so powerful hearing how their missions have changed them. We then ordered chipotle and hung out with everyone and just chilled with the Teuscher's, which felt a little strange. I learned a lot of funny things about president that night haha. The next morning I took them all to the airport and sent them home :(

Another highlight was being able to pick up BRAND NEW missionaries and drop them off to their trainers! Most of them acted like deer in the headlights and it was pretty funny. It started snowing that night too! We didn't get home and go to bed until about 1 AM, and then we woke up a 6 AM to finish preparing for MLC. I had like no energy but I had to lead the meeting in front of all the mission leadership. We took a couple of L's but it went well for the most part.

LAST THING. The spirit LITERALLY runs everything! We do our best and the spirit makes up for our shortcomings. It has been incredible to see. For example, we were getting ready to go to transfers, and I had the random thought, "bring an air mattress". So I did, and Elder Webb thought I was crazy. But then at transfers, a companionship went up to me and ASKED IF I HAPPENED TO HAVE AN EXTRA AIR MATTRESS BECAUSE THEY NEEDED ONE. How crazy is that? We worked hard, and the spirit made up the difference. Thank goodness I was willing to listen to the prompting I had. Little things like that have been happening to me every day since I got here, and I just get SO full of gratitude because I can feel God helping me out. Soooooo cool!

Love you all!!! Please pray for the New York City Mission to find FAMILIES to teach! Thank you!!

The Transition

July 5, 2021 This week was President and Sister Holme's first week as our mission presidents! I've been super nervous about this week for the past 3 months, praying, fasting, and staying up too late thinking about all the things I would need to do as their assistant to help them the best I can. Well, this week turned out to be one of the BEST weeks of my life! It was absolutely amazing! As I explain some of the awesome opportunities I had this week, KEEP IN MIND we worked SO hard this week. Harder than ever before. It wasn't all just fun and games like it might sound haha.  First of all, I attended the transition dinner between the Teuschers and the Holmes, and it was really fun just hanging out and joking around with everyone. The Teuschers surprised me, Elder Money, and President Holmes with matching "unity ties". They have little boat steering wheels on them to basically say "you guys are in charge now". I am so so soooo grateful for that whole exper...

Fireworks or Gunshots?

October 16, 2019 I feel like I am in an episode of Naked and Afraid. Except I'm not naked, I am just afraid. Haha just kidding, but I do feel like I am on survival mode, because we made popcorn in the drying machine because our house doesnt have a microwave. My district also likes playing a game that we like to call, "Fireworks or gunshots". Every night we hear loud bangs, and most of the time it is fireworks. But sometimes, it sounds more like a gunshot, and then we usually hear police sirens afterwards. So we all make guesses on if its a firework, or if someone got shot. Kinda sketchy, but theres not very many other games we can play haha. The CCM is starting to grow on me! Its literally prison but I am used to it. I am on week 3 of 6, so I am halfway done! The first 2 weeks were really, really hard, but I think I have adjusted to the lifestyle by now, and warmed up to everybody. But staying inside the classroom all day, everyday is driving me crazy! I am counting down...

WE DID IT!!

July 27, 2020 Guess what! WE DID IT! The New York City Mission is no longer quarantined! FREEDOM! 19 weeks, or 130 days of pioneering a new method of missionary work all ended on... Pioneer Day! God is so funny. You could see the entire mission's jaw drop in unison when we heard the news over a zoom call, it was crazy. We still need to wear masks if we are within 6 feet of anyone, and we still can't knock doors or start up conversations with people on the street. But we can finally teach people in person, go on exchanges, and all that other normal missionary stuff we used to enjoy. Sadly, though we are authorized to teach in person, many people are hesitant to let us into their homes, so we still don't have many opportunities to leave the house haha. I think it will take some time for things to become completely normal again, and we will continue to use the internet for missionary work because it's honestly way more effective than getting doors slammed on us. This week ...
