Luis' Baptism

September 28, 2020 Hey everyone! How was your week? That wasn't a rhetorical question, please let me know because I am interested to hear! That means YOU! Luis got baptized this week! It was a great experience for everyone involved, but MAN was it stressful! Its a long story, but so many things went wrong haha. 2 days before the baptism, Luis got cold feet and thought he needed a little more time. We sat down and talked to him for like an hour and resolved his concerns, and by the end, he felt good about being baptized again. He was SO ready for baptism, I think he was just nervous. That gave us a mini heart attack. Then, 2 hours before his baptism, our bishop (who was supposed to be the one to baptize him) got Covid, and couldn't come anymore! So at the last minute we asked another member to perform the ordinance. There's like a million other things that went wrong with the font, the zoom link, and the baptism jumpsuits, but I don't want to ramble, I think you get the ...

Elder Clayton

September 21, 2020 This week was great! I love serving with Elder Davis because not a second goes to waste and we are always working hard. Also, a member of the quorum of the 70 and his wife, Elder Clayton and Sister Clayton, visited our mission this week. We had several meetings with him every day and it was really powerful! But it was also A LOT of time spent staring at a computer screen. One day we had 5 continuous hours of meetings with him and we felt so dead afterwards haha, but it was good. Elder and Sister Clayton, and President and Sister Teuscher all joined our District Council one day, and it was terrifying but it turned out pretty awesome! I went on an exchange this week into a Sign Language area, which was way fun and interesting! I couldn't really participate in the lessons but it was super cool to see how it works! I could still feel the spirit even when it was silent and I had no idea what was happening. I also got to go on an exchange with the AP's and they hel...

9/11

September 12, 2020 This week was 9/11, which is a sad day for everyone, especially for New York. The whole thing felt a lot more real since I am actually in the place where it happened, and everyone I know actually experienced it. I went on an exchange that day to the Manhattan/Lincoln YSA ward with Elder Parks, who has only been on his mission for 2 weeks. They live right around the corner from Times Square so it was cool being down there for a while. As far as I could tell, life was pretty normal that day for New York. But at the end of the day, we spent a lot of time on the roof of their apartment building, and we had an amazing view of the city and got to see the 9/11 memorial spotlights that they shine in the sky. Elder Parks and I had a long conversation about Spiderman and how cool it would be to swing from all the buildings. I got to attend church IN PERSON for the first time in 6 months! It was so awesome! There were 2 small sessions, and masks and social distancing were requi...

Manhappen'n

September 7, 2020 Hey everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic week! My week was pretty awesome! I have SO much I want to write about, so to make things simple, I am going to make bullet points of all the fun things that are going on here in Manhattan! - Today for P-Day we went around and visited all of the famous places here in NYC, like the 9/11 memorial, the charging bull statue, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Grand Central Station, and a couple other places. I've got a lot of pictures but they won't all fit in 1 email, so I will send multiple. Sorry in advance haha. This area is sooo sick. - Every morning we go on a run in Central Park, and it is so much fun! Elder Davis and I both love running, so we run about 2-3 miles or so every day. It's tiring but I love it so much. We even met up with someone we are teaching and had a lesson in Central Park this week, which was way fun. After the lesson she wanted to give us a little tour of the park, so we got to se...

Zone Leader in Manhattan!

August 31, 2020 Hello everyone! This week was CRAZY. First of all, on Thursday I got a call from President Teuscher asking me to be a Zone Leader in the Manhattan Zone! I am pretty nervous because I have never done that before, but I am SUPER excited! My new area is Harlem, and my companion is Elder Davis!! Elder Davis sent me a message and told me that "the whole island is ours", and that our area boundaries literally cover ALL of Manhattan!  I am so hyped! Elder Davis used to be my District Leader back in Queens, so I already know him and he is super awesome! As for Elder Larsen, he is a reassigned missionary from a mission in Mexico, and I have never met him before. I get transferred tomorrow, and I am going to miss The Bronx so much! I have really enjoyed all of my time in this area, even if most of it was spent not being allowed to go outside. Being a Zone Leader is a daunting responsibility but I am excited to figure it all out in Manhattan! I went on an exchange this w...
